Numbered pages make a document easier to navigate, cite and print. They matter most for anything that will be read on paper or referenced by page: court and legal filings, tender and grant submissions, printed handouts, manuals, contracts that say "see page 12", and long reports that go out for review.
You can stamp a plain number (1), a number with the total (1 / 10), or a labelled form (Page 1). The "1 / N" style is the friendliest for print, because a reader can immediately see how much is left. Numbers can sit in the bottom centre, left or right — pick a corner that won't collide with an existing footer, logo or margin note.
Set the starting number to handle front matter: begin at 0 or a later page if a cover or contents page shouldn't count, or start at a higher number to continue the sequence of a document that follows another. The number you set is applied to the first page and increments from there.
It draws clean numbers as a text layer on top of each page, so they're crisp and selectable. It is deliberately simple: it doesn't do full legal Bates numbering (prefixes and zero-padded sequences across many files), and it doesn't detect numbers a document may already have — so remove any old numbering first if you don't want two sets. The numbers are placed in the margin area you choose (bottom centre, left or right). If your PDF already has content in that exact spot — a footer, logo or existing page number — the new number will sit on top of it. Check the position against your document's layout, and pick a different corner if needed.
