meldpdf is an independent, privacy-first set of PDF tools that runs entirely in your web browser. There's no sign-up, no watermark, and — for everything the browser can do locally — no upload.
It's a single free toolkit for the everyday PDF jobs people actually need: compress, merge, split, delete and reorder pages, rotate, convert to and from images, add page numbers or a watermark, sign, extract text, convert to Word, view and remove metadata, OCR a scan, and password-protect or unlock a file. Each tool has its own page so you can go straight to the task.
meldpdf processes your files on your device using open-source libraries that run inside the browser — pdf-lib and PDF.js for the PDF work, plus tesseract.js for OCR and a WebAssembly build of qpdf for password protection. meldpdf is a product of Black Falcon Studios, a small, independent software studio focused on privacy-first web tools. We started meldpdf because we were tired of uploading sensitive contracts and bank statements to random PDF sites that keep your files on their servers. Every tool here was born from a real task we needed to do ourselves — merging invoices, stripping metadata before sharing, compressing scans that were too large to email — and we thought other people probably needed the same thing without the privacy trade-off.

Most online PDF tools work by uploading your file to a remote server, processing it there, and sending it back. That means a third party — and anyone who breaches that third party — can read your documents. We took the opposite approach: everything runs in your browser using open-source WebAssembly and JavaScript libraries. The trade-off is that very large files can be slower than a server-side tool, but we think that's a fair price for keeping your documents private by default.
